The Mavericks were formed in Florida and are based in Nashville. But there's always been something innately Texas about the eclectic band.

The group was surprised during a tour stop when county judge Barbara Canales proclaimed Feb. 5 as The Mavericks Day in Nueces County. This weekend, Raul Malo will perform at the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards Show. Inductees include Lefty Frizzell, Nanci Griffith, Lightnin’ Hopkins and Mark James.

The Mavericks return to Houston April 9 for a show at the Arena Theatre as part of the En Español World Tour. Tickets start at $39.50 and are on sale now.
